When a limb comes through at nine on a Friday, the job is to stop water entering and to preserve the evidence, in that order and without sacrificing the second for the first. We photograph the damage before the tarp goes on, because once it is covered the adjuster is looking at a blue sheet.

How fast can you get here?
Same day in almost every case, and often within a few hours outside a major event. After a metro-wide storm we work active water intrusion first and everyone else in order.
Does the tarp cost me anything?
It is billed, and it is almost always covered by the policy as mitigation — insurers would far rather pay for a tarp than for a week of water. We document it accordingly.
How long can a tarp stay on?
A properly battened tarp holds for a few months. It is not a roof, and leaving one up through a season is how a repair becomes a replacement.
Should I move things in the attic first?
If it is safe to, yes — and photograph anything already wet before you move it. That photo is worth more to your claim than almost anything we can take from the roof.
